speedy moisture tester
For accurate moisture readings on fields of soil, sand, and aggregates.
The test system uses the reaction between water and calcium carbide forming a gas. Complete with electronic balance and accessories; the whole is contained in a portable moulded case, but without reagent tin.
Uses a technique based on the fact that water will react with calcium carbide to form a gas and that the quantity of gas formed is directly proportional to the water present. The gas pressure is indicated on a built-in pressure gauge. The pressure gauge calibrated in percentage of moisture. Has a moisture range of 0-20% with gauge divisions every 0.2%. Holds a sample size of 20 g. Includes an electronic balance of 200 g capacity x 0.1 g readability and is supplied in plastic carrying case.
The system consists of a low pressure vessel fitted with a pressure gauge and an electronic scale and test accessories. Moisture measurements are made by mixing a weighed sample of the material with a calcium carbide reagent in the sealed pressure vessel. The reagent reacts chemically with water in the sample, producing acetylene gas that in turn increases the pressure within the vessel. The pressure increase in the vessel is proportional to the amount of water in the sample, the moisture content can be read directly from the calibrated pressure gauge.
The Speedy has an accuracy of 0.5% on most materials and the gauge can be calibrated from 0-20% moisture, based on wet weight. Test speeds range from 45 seconds to 3 minutes depending on material. The tester is supplied complete with heavy-duty plastic carrying case, electronic balance (0-200g and battery operated, beaker, cleaning cloth, cap, washer, scoop, steel pulverizing balls and cleaning brushes.
HAZARDOUS WARNING:
Danger of explosion/fire may result if Moisture Testing Reagent is allowed contact with moisture. Calcium carbide forms flammable acetylene gas when wet so it must be kept sealed and dry.

Speedy 2000 Moisture Testers are widely accepted for rapid, accurate, and reliable moisture tests on materials such as sand, aggregates, ores, coal, soils, ceramics, abrasives, and other powders. The Speedy moisture testers are portable, easy to use, and do not require a power supply.
The test technique is based on the fact that water will react with calcium carbide to form acetylene gas and the quantity if gas formed us directly proportional to the water present, leaving a surplus if the chemical used in the test,
The quantity of acetylene gas produced is indicated in a built-in pressure gauge which is calibrated in the percentage of moisture on a wet weight basis. A conversion formula gives the corresponding moisture content based on the dry weight.
Soil plays an essential role in different parts of human existence, from horticulture, agriculture to construction, natural administration to geographical designing. The characteristics and properties of soil directly influence its stability and appropriateness for specific applications. Soil testing equipment is fundamental for evaluating these properties of soil and assuring the progress of construction projects that involve soil manipulation or interaction. This testing investigates the different kinds of soil testing equipment, their capabilities, and their importance in diverse fields.
